The review order behind Keep, Review and Consider disavow
The label only makes sense after the evidence is read in the right order. Start with the backlink state, then review backlink quality, separate content safety from SEO risk, and only then decide whether the row belongs in Keep, Review or Consider disavow.
How to use it
Use this guide after reading the Excel Results tab and PDF summary. The decision layer works only when the row state is understood first. If a backlink is misread, the label can be misused even when the audit evidence is correct.
Decision outputs
The three labels are useful because they force a simple review path. A backlink does not need to be perfect to stay, and a weak backlink does not automatically belong in a disavow file.
Keep: usable backlink evidence
Keep means the backlink was found and does not show major audit-level reasons to reject it. It does not promise rankings, traffic or indexing. It only means the placement is not failing the backlink audit layer.
Review: evidence needs another look
Review is not a verdict. It means the backlink exists, but context still matters: topical fit, placement quality, language context, repeated patterns or technical signals may need human interpretation.
Consider disavow: reserved for stronger risk patterns
Consider disavow is for backlinks with stronger toxic backlink signals, manipulation footprints or disavow risk. It is a manual review candidate, not an automatic submission instruction.
Hard rules
These rules prevent overreaction. Some states tell you the backlink did not deliver value; other states tell you the backlink may be harmful. Those are not the same.
No link and error are never Keep
If no backlink is found, Keep is not appropriate. If the page cannot be verified, value cannot be confirmed. These rows should be fixed, replaced, rechecked or excluded from confident reporting.
Review queue
Review is the safest middle layer. It prevents two costly mistakes: keeping risky dofollow links because they look valuable, or disavowing weak-but-non-toxic links because they look disappointing.
