Read Your Verify Backlinks Audit Excel, PDF & disavow.txt

Learn the correct reading order for a Verify Backlinks audit: start with the Excel Results tab, compare the PDF summary, review backlink quality and toxic backlink signals, then decide what to Keep, Review or Consider disavow.

Reading order
The 5-step interpretation loop
1) Start in Results
Read rows as states: dofollow, nofollow, no link or error. Each state needs a different next step.
2) Check backlink quality
Review placement, topical fit, indexability, language context and other quality signals before trusting the backlink.
3) Separate risk types
Risk label reflects content safety. Toxic score reflects SEO risk. They are not the same.
4) Read the decision
Use Keep, Review and Consider disavow as review labels, not automatic actions.
5) Review before disavow
The disavow.txt output is a suggestion file. It should be reviewed before any manual cleanup step.

How to read a Verify Backlinks audit without guessing

A Verify Backlinks audit is a live backlink audit output, not a vanity score. It combines Excel, PDF and disavow.txt results so you can check backlink quality, interpret toxic backlink signals and understand Index, Noindex or Consider disavow decisions.

Key principle: Start with the Excel Results tab, then use the PDF summary and Decision Matrix to confirm the pattern. Follow type describes the link state. Risk label reflects content safety. Toxic score reflects SEO risk. The disavow.txt output is a review file, not an automatic cleanup action.

Decision Matrix

The Decision Matrix is the reading guide for Index, Noindex and Consider disavow. It helps you connect link state, backlink quality, toxic backlink signals and technical blockers to the final recommendation.

Language signals

Language signals help explain relevance. A backlink can exist, load correctly and still be a weak match if the detected language, target language or audience context does not align with the target domain.

Tiers

Tiers are a quality lens, not a replacement for review. Use them with follow type, topical fit, link power, placement and toxic backlink check results to understand whether a backlink deserves trust.

Domain view

Domain view helps you detect repeated patterns across the same source domain. This is useful when a backlink list contains many URLs from one network, vendor source or repeated placement pattern.

Disavow output

The disavow.txt file is a suggestion created from backlinks marked Consider disavow. It should be reviewed manually in context with the Excel and PDF before any Search Console upload.
